YouTube has Concluded its Experiment of ‘Unskippable Ads’, says a YouTube Spokesperson

According to the reports, the video streaming platform, YouTube, was testing to show up to 10 unskippable ads while watching a video.

Over the years, YouTube, a leading video streaming platform, has started running advertisements on its domain. The aim of YouTube behind running ads is to support the YouTube creators financially and maintain the platform. However, YouTube recently went a little overboard as several users complained about struggling with large unskippable ads on YouTube.

According to the reports, the video streaming platform, YouTube, was testing to show up to 10 unskippable ads while watching a video. After a massive backlash from the YouTube users on platforms like Twitter and Reddit, the company decided to conclude its experiment.

Furthermore, after receiving a largely negative user’s response to its long ads, YouTube took a step forward and clarified that this will not happen with all the videos and the ads will not be this long in the future. Fearing the massive backlash by the users, the company also said that the ads would only be as long as 6 seconds and not longer than that in the future.

So technically, if a user now chooses to see multiple videos on YouTube with a total of 5 ads, the user will have to wait for approximately 30 seconds to continue streaming videos on YouTube.

A spokesperson for YouTube recently confirmed the reports in an interview and said “At YouTube, we’re focused on helping brands connect with audiences around the world, and we’re always testing new ways to surface ads that enhance the viewer experience. We ran a small experiment globally that served multiple ads in an ad pod when viewers watched longer videos on connected TVs. The goal is to build a better experience for viewers by reducing ad breaks. We have concluded this small experiment.”

Reports suggest that although there’s great relief among the users after YouTube has announced to conclude its experiment of running unskippable ads, many users have switched to the premium version of YouTube which comes at a monthly subscription of Rs189 per month, in India. Additionally, YouTube also offers a 30-day free trial for its new subscribers.
