Leadership Challenges Faced by Women in the Modern World

Various study claims that around 25% to 30% of women are in the management and leadership positions and continue to face leadership challenges almost every day. Around a quarter of the global workforce consists of women. Although various doors for opportunities have grown for women in the workplace, there is still a substantial disparity between the male and female employees.

  • Building a Network

It is no secret that the majority holding the authority are males. Making it difficult for the women to build a healthy support network, for both their work and opportunities.

  • Unequal Pay Scale

Gender disparity has a lot of evil practices in society. However, the corporate houses lack no behind in the race. Studies claiming that women executives still earn less than 20% to 25% than male executives in comparable positions.

Unfortunately, this still remains a significant problem. Though, various campaigns and anti-harassment laws helped to renovate the workspace as a safe zone for female employees. Still, it’s a long journey to totally liberate the workspace from such evil practices. It is estimated that around 90% of the female employees have experienced sexual harassment in their job once a life. This can be accounted as one of the primary reasons for facing leadership challenges.

  • Lack of Sponsorship and Mentors

Research from Harvard Business Reviews finds that women entrepreneurs are less likely to obtain sponsorship. These results, clearly indicate that it not only slows the career of female entrepreneurs but deeply affects their mental health. Moreover, various studies says that women are less likely to get a mentor and guide for their development in the male-dominated sectors

  • Exclusion from Decision-Making

The male-dominated world has always excluded women from participating in decision-making. However, it has been noticed that the old practices have not yet been eradicated from society. Even, the females sitting at the top executive are questioned and undermined by the male-dominated councils, may it be corporate or political for their decision-making skills.

However, with more women, nowadays sitting at top executives and leadership positions are somehow breaking the wheel of “Traditional Thinking” of undermining women. It is estimated that the number of leadership challenges that they are facing shall reduce considerably over the course of time.
