Google stops hiring for two weeks to assess its headcount needs

In order to assess its personnel requirements and determine its next course of action, Google has suspended all recruiting for the next two weeks. The business indicated last week that employment will be reduced for the remainder of the year.

The Information claims that Google’s senior vice president Prabhakar Raghavan informed staff via email of the decision to halt recruiting for two weeks.

For the following three months, Raghavan wrote, “We’ll use this time to assess our headcount needs and align on a new set of priority Staffing Requests.”

“Offers that had already been extended to candidates” would not be affected by the hiring halt.

But until the recruiting hold is lifted, Google won’t issue any fresh offers, the report added late on Wednesday.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet and Google, earlier informed staff that the business will slow down recruiting for the remainder of the year as adverse global macroeconomic circumstances continue to affect a variety of industries.

Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai informed staff through internal message that the organisation will need to “be more entrepreneurial” and work with “more urgency, sharper concentration, and more desire than we’ve demonstrated on sunny days.”

“That might include reducing procedures and combining investments where they overlap. Other times, that entails stopping growth and reallocating resources to other crucial sectors “Pichai said

The Google CEO did, however, state that the business will continue to fill “important positions in engineering, technology, and other areas.”

The uncertain state of the world economy, according to Pichai, has been a major concern.

We’ve never seen these kinds of difficulties as impediments, which is something I value about our culture. Instead, we’ve viewed them as chances to narrow our focus and make long-term investments “added the CEO of Indian descent.

In this year’s second quarter (Q2), Google employed about 10,000 individuals.

Because of the hiring accomplishments made so far this year, according to Pichai, “We’ll be reducing the pace of recruitment for the balance of the year while continuing to support our most important priorities.”
