The 3rd generation of the K-pop industry has a lot of amazing girl groups with diverse discographies and more. For the ones who are new to the world of K-pop we have curated a list of those girl groups to listen to and follow on their journey:
1. BLACKPINK
Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa are the members of BLACKPINK. The band made its debut in August 2016 with their single album Square One. BLACKPINK is the most successful Korean girl group on the international stage, and has been dubbed “the biggest girl group in the world” on numerous occasions. They are the first music group and Korean female act to have five music videos on YouTube receive one billion views each; the most-subscribed music act on the platform and the first to reach over 80 million subscribers; and the most-followed girl group on Spotify.
2. MAMAMOO
MAMAMOO is made up of four people: Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa. On June 18, 2014, the group made their official debut with their single ‘Mr. Ambiguous.’ Some critics regarded their debut as one of the best K-pop debuts of 2014. They are known for their retro, jazz, and R&B concepts, as well as their powerful vocal performances. On June 22, 2017, the band released their fifth EP Purple, which included the lead single Yes I Am.
3. TWICE
TWICE’s members are Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. TWICE debuted on October 20, 2015, as part of the television show Sixteen (2015), with the extended play (EP) The Story Begins. TWICE rose to domestic prominence in 2016 with their single ‘Cheer Up,’ which charted at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, became the year’s best-performing single, and won ‘Song of the Year’ at the Melon Music Awards.
4. DREAMCATCHER
JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami, and Gahyeon are the members of Dreamcatcher. On January 13, 2017, they made their official debut with the single album Nightmare. Dreamcatcher debuted as MINX on September 18, 2014, with the single Why Did You Come to My Home and a five-member lineup of JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, and Dami. The group has earned the moniker of “K-Face pop’s of Rock.”
