In a series of tweets focusing on the way forward, Twitter CEO Elon Musk said the social media platform needed to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world.

“Twitter needs to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. That’s our mission,” he wrote, sharing his vision for the company.

In a fresh warning, the SpaceX founder said any Twitter handle engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended.

“Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended,” he wrote.

The business magnate said his commitment to free speech extended even to not banning the account following his plane, even though that was a direct personal safety risk.

He said widespread verification will democratize journalism and empower the voice of the people.

Informing about Twitter’s new no-warning policy, he said, “Previously, we issued a warning before the suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue.”

Musk also said any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark.

Twitter on Saturday updated its application in Apple’s App Store to begin charging $8 for sought-after blue check verification marks, in Elon Musk’s first major revision of the social media platform.

Tesla Inc boss Musk, who will also serve as chief executive of Twitter, last month said Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints”.

“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” he added.
