Liger: Fans aren’t impressed with the Vijay Deverkonda starrer Pan-India film

Early reviews of Liger suggest that the film didn’t live up to the hype. While fans applaud Deverkonda for his physical transformation, they aren’t exactly impacted by the story.

The Vijay Deverkonda and Ananya Panday starrer Liger has opened to mixed reviews from the audience. The pan-India release was much hyped up with all the promotions and teasers. However, the early reviews suggest that the film didn’t live up to the hype. While fans applaud Deverkonda for his physical transformation, they aren’t exactly impacted by the story.

Liger tells the story of MMA fighter named Liger for a cross-breed of Lion and Tiger. Vijay Deverkonda plays the titular role while Ramya Krishnan stars as his mother. Moreover, Bollywood’s Ananya Pandey is there too. The film has Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions backing it and is directed by Puro Jagganadh. The multilingual film was released in Tamil and Telugu on the 25th. And is slated for a release in North India on the 26th, Friday.

The audience reacts to Liger

Fans took to social media to register their disappointment in the film. Most of them feel that the film’s story and execution have wasted Vijay Deverkonda’s skills and physical transformation. One user wrote, “In Liger, Vijay Deverakonda’s transformation is stunning, and he gives a committed performance. But it is a wasted opportunity. The narration is totally formulaic. Where’s the story?”

Others iterated similar issues with the plot. “What do you do if it happens with a film, where you should be telling a story? Lately, you just shout ‘India’, and if your budget permits, you shout it in a different country. If there is still money left, you pay Mike Tyson to play himself but call him Mark Anderson,” wrote another.

“To be honest, Puri Jagannadh’s golden days are over. It’s fine if his films are bad. But why take a star like Vijay Deverakonda and an actor like Ramya Krishna down with you? They are both so earnest in their performances, it breaks your heart to see them in a film that couldn’t care less. It’s so wrong,” is another reaction to the film.
