Wasim Akram latest to voice in support for Virat Kohli ahead of the Asia Cup 2022

“Whatever I’ve been seeing on social media from Indian fans, against Virat Kohli, the press, or fans… they are all having a go at him unnecessarily.”

Former Pakistani player Wasim Akram has registered his support for Virat Kohli. The Indian batter has been struggling with his form recently. But the chatter around Kohli’s form has now outgrown the actual problem itself. While many are rooting for his return, others are criticizing several of his recent decisions like missing out on international tours. Anyhow, the discussions about him on social media are incessant.

Joining in the likes of many international players and former players, Wasim Akram has also backed Virat Kohli now. Earlier, the Pakistani star player Babar Azam also posted about Kohli’s comeback, gaining an appreciation for his kind gesture. Akram in his recent statement has urged everyone to keep the online noise down low, reminding them of the greatness Kohli has attained up until now.

“First of all, let me start off by saying that from the last year or so… whatever I’ve been seeing on social media from Indian fans, against Virat Kohli, the press, or fans… they are all having a go at him unnecessarily. He is only 33. He is one of the greatest of all times, and not just the modern era,” Akram said.

Moreover, he added, “He is averaging 50-plus in all formats, including T20. And he is still fit is a fiddle, is one of the best fielders in the Indian squad, and like they say, form is temporary, class is forever, I am sure that he will come back. He is still a great player. I hope he doesn’t come back against Pakistan but in general he will make a comeback.”

Virat Kohli is all set to take part in the Asia Cup and is about to face Akram’s home team Pakistan. While Kohli preps for his comeback in the game, the support is pouring him from all over. Hopes are from Kohli and eventually the Indian team to clinch the Asia Cup.
