Late Singer Sidhu Moosewala Honoured With Dada Saheb Phalke Iconic Award; Watch

Late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was killed in a Mansa village on May 29, was posthumously awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Iconic Award. The 29-year-old had achieved a great deal of fame, love, and international recognition, as evidenced by his playlists, which sparked interest all over the world. With songs like So High, Same Beef, The Last Ride, Just Listen, and others, the late singer amassed a massive fan base in India and abroad. His song 295 recently charted on the Billboard Global 200.

However, Sidhu Moosewala rose to prominence with his 2018 single So High, while his debut album PBX1 peaked at 66th on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. Not only was that, but his single 47 ranked on the UK singles chart, which was always what set him apart.

Singer Afsana Khan, who shared a brother-sister bond with Sidhu, and her husband Saajz accepted the award on Moosewala’s behalf, which was an emotional moment for the audience and fans in attendance. In order to pay tribute to Moosewala, the Titliaan crooner sang the late singer’s famous song 295 followed by a signature ‘thaapi.’ Afsana shared a video from the event and wrote, “Dada Saheb Falke Iconic Award for Vadda Bai Sidhu Moosewala @sidhu_moosewala Legend never Die #justiceforsidhumoosewala”.

 

Although it has been several months since the murder of Sidhu Moosewala, his fans and industry friends continue to remember him in various ways, and after witnessing their favourite singer win the Dala Saheb Phalke Award, they dropped several reactions, as evidenced by the comments section. “I am just a big fan of Sidhu Moosewala from u.p….legend never dies always rules in our heart,” one fan wrote, while another commented, “Congratulations veere we r proud of u # sidhu moosewala #justice for sidhu moosewala,” and many hearts were dropped to the post.

On May 29, Moosewala was gunned down in a village in Mansa, a day after the Punjab government reduced his security cover. The shooting continued for about 10 minutes, with unknown gunmen firing around 30 bullets, leaving the singer with 19 “firearm wounds” on his body caused by bullets and pellets. He died within 15 minutes of the attack, and two other passengers were referred to Patiala for further treatment. Moosewala was cremated in his ancestral village of Moosa in Punjab’s Mansa district, in front of thousands of mourners.
