Police officer killed, two cops injured in militant attack in Srinagar

A police officer was shot dead while two constables were injured after militants attacked a naka party near GD Goanka school in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on Tuesday evening.

The slain officer was identified as assistant sub-inspector Mushtaq Ahmed. The two injured constables were rushed to the hospital.

Earlier in a tweet, the Kashmir Zone Police had said that the militant fired on a naka party injuring three policemen.

“Terrorists fired upon a police naka party at Lal Bazar area of Srinagar city. In this terror incident, three police personnel got injured and they have been shifted to hospital. Area has been cordoned. Further details shall follow,” the police had tweeted.

The attack has created fear in the area. A large contingent of police and CRPF has reached the spot to look for the attackers.

Of late, the police has come under increased attacks from militants in the valley. Several policemen have been targeted by militants with pistols.

The attacks come at a time when Kashmir is celebrating Eid ul Adha.
