India to begin selections of ‘Super XI’ for T20 World Cup soon!!
Test stars like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant would start playing for the T20 team after the second match.
In the three-match T20 series against an aggressive England that starts here on Thursday, experimentation will be put on hold while India settles on their best eleven for the World Cup.
The series’ starting pitcher, Rohit Sharma, who missed the fifth Test in Birmingham due to COVID-19, will arrive in the port city on Wednesday.
Test stars like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant would start playing for the T20 team after the second match.
Their absence would give young players like Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who look to have fallen out of favour on India’s expected roster for the World Cup in Australia, another one opportunity to make an impression.
Due to a tweak, Gaikwad couldn’t start alongside Ishan Kishan in the two games in Ireland; if Rohit returns, he would once again have to warm the bench.
As a reserve opener, Kishan has performed admirably in the few opportunities he has had, and he will want to solidify his place in the team by taking a big wicket against the powerful England.
Deepak Hooda will be hoping for another game-winning performance to maintain himself in the running because Kohli is anticipated to be back at number three from game two.
With a century and 47 runs remaining against Ireland, Hooda has made it more difficult for the team management to exclude him from the starting eleven.
Rahul Tripathi and Arshdeep Singh, who have no prior experience, were not selected for the second or third T20, and it is doubtful that they will play on Thursday.
Suryakumar Yadav had issues getting going in the games in Malahide after recovering from injury against Ireland. He will have faith in himself to get back to his creative best. He and Hooda took part in the warm-up run against Derbyshire last week.
After keeping Ireland to 17 runs in the penultimate over of a high-scoring second T20 encounter, pacer Umran Malik will be brimming with confidence in the bowling department. He has to improve his accuracy, though, as he is still growing.
The Irish onslaught startled the pacers, even the seasoned Bhuvneshwar Kumar and cunning Harshal Patel, and they will need to perform at their peak against a more formidable foe.
It is likely that Yuzvendra Chahal would start in lieu of Ravi Bishnoi.
India has around 15 T20 matches left before the T20 World Cup in Australia in October: 3 against England as in current series, five against the West Indies (July 29-August 7), probably 5 in the Asia Cup (Aug-Sep), and three against Australia (September).
After the England series, the selection procedure for its best XI for the big tournament will begin.
The series brings in the Jos Buttler period for England after Eoin Morgan’s departure.
The series has been suspended for Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow, the stars of the fifth Test against India.
